WORKSHOP TO BE RESCHEDULED - TBA
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: Learn how to letter with a bamboo stylus. Students will watch a detailed demonstration on how the stylus is handcrafted. Participants will make their own stylus from prepared components in the workshop. Learn a beautiful modified Italic miniscule alphabet. Discover the nuances of the finest hairlines, bold sweeping strokes with wispy endings with a single tool. Pointed pen applications with the stylus will also be explored. This workshop is open to all levels, although some lettering experience is helpful.
ABOUT ED: Ed Fong is a Los Angeles City Council Graphics lettering artist for more than 36 years, began a lifelong passion for lettering at the age of 11 under the mentorship of his father Roy K. Fong, a student of William B. Wollman. Ed also maintains a free- lance calligraphy business, specializing in formal certificates and retirement resolutions for various corporate, municipal and nonprofit clients. His calligraphic work is influenced by the engrossing style of the Zanerian College of Penmanship in Columbus, Ohio. In addition to teaching an occasional work- shop, he currently mentors individual students in engrossing and illumination.
We will be following protocol as it applies to the Montclair Mall on the date of the workshop. Per our PVAA contact, masks are currently required inside the individual retail spaces. We will keep you informed regarding any changes.
