PRESENTER: Risa Gettler

SPONSOR: South Los Angeles Chapter (Solar Nibs)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Interwoven Knots, aka Celtic Knots, had it’s origins in the late Roman Empire. The knot we will be painting is from early medieval Spain. The Islamic influence adds unique and interesting decorative elements that are fun to paint - in colors of your choice. In addition to the pure pleasure of painting the knot looks great printed on throw pillows, apron bibs, note cards and mouse pads.

ABOUT RISA GETTLER:

Risa Gettler, career artist, calligrapher, instructor, and author, was captured by Spain in 2005. Her exclusive study, research, and class development stems from her years of focused study and discoveries from the manuscripts of early medieval Spain. Risa infuses her classes with culture and and history of the Golden Age of Spain in her decorative capitals, interwoven knots, designs and patterns, knotted alphabets, and Visigothic Versals classes. Accolades specific to this study includes a CD cover of early medieval Spanish music via National Endowment of the Arts, featured work in Letter Arts Review and Bound & Lettered, development of Visigothic Versals - a national lettering style taught at international letter conferences and guilds, hand-lettered and illustrated books and lectures. Risa's book, Animating the Alphabet, will be available this Christmas.
