No charge and membership not required for these Study Group Sessions.

ABOUT THE SESSION: These sessions are led by members, sharing what they have learned. They do not claim to be masters. Members and guests may register for any session--there is no requirement to attend all sessions. The aim is to share knowledge with newbies and to provide a refresher for those with more experience.  Barbara Close will lead us through writing Romans with a  broad-edged pen. Barbara will be teaching a multi-series Roman class for us early next year--this is a taste.

We plan to record. Kristi asks that you remind her! Recording will be available for two months.

San Diego SfC hosts its Roman's Study Group most months, on the first Friday, with a hiatus over the summer and in December.  You must sign up for each individual session so that we know how many are interested in this particular session.

SUPPLY LIST

  • Practice paper that you like to use, i.e. Canson Pro Layout Marker 9 x 12", Borden & Riley Layout, Strathmore Sketch 300 series (you can see thru this nicely and provides a nice "tooth" to the paper). I like this
  • Pencil, eraser, ruler (prefer a C-thru 12")
  • Broad-edged pens (nibs): Speedball C2 and C3. Guidelines will be provided for both sizes
  •  Pen holders
  • Writing fluid: Higgins Eternal, sumi, walnut ink, or gouache. (I prefer gouache...it sits on the paper so nicely). Choose a color other than yellow
  • A container for mixing + a mixing brush

Flexible Schedule for the evening:

6:30 - 6:45 Announcements and opportunity for attendees to share their work from the past month.

6:45 - 7:45 Demo. Participants work along. We'll be creating our own exemplar, as well as thumbnail sketches.

7:45 - 8:00 Opportunity for those who wish to share what they've completed during the session, time for questions.

We welcome non-SfC-members to these Romans Study Group sessions--your opportunity to get acquainted with us. Members feel free to invite your friends!

Zoom invitation and handouts are sent a day or two in advance.

It's not guaranteed that you'll receive them beforehand, if you sign up the day of the event . . .
