About the Workshop:
Copperplate Minuscules – A Systematic Approach
This class will help students develop a foundation in the fundamentals of the Copperplate style of pointed pen script. The class will begin with a brief introduction to using a pointed pen, and a time for questions for students unfamiliar with the pointed pen. Participants will learn the structure of the basic strokes for the minuscules of this beautiful script, and then use those basic strokes to form the various related groups of minuscule letters. Detailed practice worksheets will be provided in PDF format.
Copperplate Majuscules – A Systematic Approach
This class is a continuation of the Copperplate Minuscules class, exploring the basic strokes and structure of the majuscules of the script. Basic familiarity with pointed pen and with the Copperplate minuscule alphabet is required before taking this class. Detailed practice worksheets will be provided in PDF format.
The workshop will be recorded and available for two months.
Recommended Experience: Beginners to advanced
About Jodi:
With no artistic background, Jodi jumped into calligraphy in late 2016 with a serious desire to learn pointed pen calligraphy, and no clue as to how to get started. After unsuccessfully trying to find local classes or resources, she began navigating the many challenges of learning calligraphy on her own. A couple years later she pursued “correspondence course” instruction from calligrapher Bill Kemp. As online courses began to be available, she continued to study, learn, and develop her traditional Copperplate/Engrosser’s Script style calligraphy.
Jodi’s professional career in software engineering gave her a natural orientation toward detail. Her lifelong passion for training horses and teaching riding skills gave her an understanding of how to break complex skills down into “bite-sized” pieces for a less intimidating learning experience, as well as a focus on self-assessment as a tool to develop increased skill refinement which she now brings to her calligraphy instruction.
