PLAYFUL ROMANS: Set aside the rules and play with Romans in lines that wander and bend, letters that tuck inside one another or ascenders and descenders that escape into the lines above or below. We will experiment with flourishes and variations of form. There is joy of learning the proper rules and proportions and also in setting them temporarily aside and letting them run a little bit wild.
These sessions are led by members, sharing what they have learned. They do not claim to be masters. Members and guests may register for any individual session--there is no requirement to attend prior sessions. The aim is to share knowledge with newbies and to provide a refresher for those with more experience. Each individual session requires separate registration.
We plan to record this session. Kristi asks that you remind her!
Flexible Schedule for the evening:
6:30 - 6:45 Announcements
6:45 - 7:45 Seriffed pen-written Romans, informally placed in undulating lines.
7:45 - 8:00 Opportunity for those who wish to share what they've completed during the session (and over the summer) and time for questions.
SUPPLY LIST:
The supplies you’ll need are only the things you love most and use most often.
Please have the basics close at hand:
- pencil
- ruler
- eraser
- few sheets of paper for experimentation (copier paper will do)
- piece or two of watercolor or mixed media paper (anything 5X7” or larger will be great)
- ink or gouache
- paper towel or little rag
- water supply
- small assortment of pointed or flat nibs that you really enjoy working with
Please also be ready with a quote or two if you’d like to work with specific words of your choice. The handouts will include a selection to inspire you if you prefer that.
Be prepared for a relaxed session of letter play! If you’re like me you may want a little chocolate to make the evening even sweeter.
Membership in SfC is not required
Zoom invitation and handouts are sent a couple days in advance.
