THE RUNCIBLE JOURNAL

Sponsored by

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2025,  6:30-8PM PDT

Runcible: a nonsense word, coined by Edward Lear. In his poem, The Owl and the Pussycat, he named a "runcible spoon", which enhanced the whimsical rhythm of the verse. He later applied the word to other objects: "he weareth a runcible hat";  mention of a "runcible cat", a "runcible goose" (in the sense of "silly person"),  a "runcible wall", and "the Rural Runcible Raven".

Our friend, Joyce Bank,  collector of words, dreamed up the Runcible Journal concept and taught it to several of us at an informal art/lettering retreat. We can fill our small journal with nonsense to practice our lettering and art techniques OR Joyce likes to fill hers with both nonsense AND workshop notes. In Kristi's case, she's filling her current pages with Roman capital variations, along with some appealing marks and tiny collaged pieces--not nonsense, in her opinion :) . Many of you have folded these one-page journals in the past and this session gives you another enjoyable use for this structure.

No charge for these Study Group Sessions. They are led by members, who do not claim to be masters, sharing what they have learned. There is no requirement toh have attended prior sessions. The aim is to share knowledge with newbies and to provide a refresher for those with more experience. Each individual Romans Study Group session requires separate registration. We plan to record this session. Kristi asks that you remind her! Recording will be available for two months.

Flexible Schedule for the evening:

6:30 - 6:45 Announcements.

6:45 - 7:45 Kristi Darwick will demo folding the one-page journal; writing Roman letters on a page, and applying quick decoration for added interest.

7:45 - 8:00 An opportunity for those who wish to share what they've completed before or during this session--we always love to see what our fellow lettering artists are up to. Also, there is time to ask more questions of our speaker.
