We want to encourage and motivate our members to create finished pieces. And being involved with these study group sessions should help us all improve our skills. We'll learn about design principles and how we might apply them, and we'll have the opportunity to seek critiques from our fellow participants. And, for those who are interested, we've created a private Facebook group to continue our interaction between sessions.
And, watch for workshops that can supplement what we learn in these sessions! Your input is welcome, regarding design topics you'd like to study.
When you create a piece you love, we encourage you to exhibit it with the San Diego chapter, whether you're a member of this chapter, or have taken a workshop/class/study group with us. Of course, there is no obligation!
Study Group sessions are usually led by members, sharing what they have learned--we're all learning together! From time-to-time, we will have guest presenters.
The session will be led by talented graphic artist and calligrapher Sue Greenseth. Sue will be walking us through Adding Graphical Elements to Calligraphy: Choosing the right hand, ink colors, and creating contrasts is usually all that is necessary to convey emotion in calligraphy. But sometimes adding a graphic element can enhance your work. Sue will share her tips and tricks to determine when to add a graphic element, how to choose the look and feel of a graphic, and its placement.
We plan to record this session. Kristi asks that you remind her!

1. Share our work, ask for suggestions from the participants
2. Talk about goals and direction for this series
3. Review the day's topic: Focus on specific principles/elements of design
4. Another chance to share and invite critique (always optional).
Pre-session Preparation: We strongly encourage you to join our private Facebook group, so that you can interact with other Study Group participants and we can help each other. To do that, please contact Kristi at sdworkshops@societyforcalligraphy.org
Month's Project: We'll continue with our projects, at our own pace.

- Paper, pens, ink, any calligraphy supplies participants want or need.
